@fastfinge@interfree.ca@jhwgh1968 Perhaps. But both Windows and Mac manage with a design goal of "Boot! No matter what!" and seem to do okay. I've booted deeply, deeply broken Windows systems and still gotten Internet, sound, and my screen reader. So I tend to blame Linux for the current state of affairs.
