@lynessence If I wasn’t working I would. All the pieces exist, it’s just a matter of integrating them all. That’s really all micro blog did is build a really nice front end on top of open source stuff.

@neurrone The iCloud drive app on Windows actually works really well these days! The problem with a public folder is I dump copies of files to share in there, then forget to ever delete them, and my storage fills up with useless junk.

@neurrone Unfortunately I just use iCloud for syncing stuff to IOS. I'm part of an iCloud family, so there isn't really any cheaper option. What I mean about being intentional with sharing is: I don't really want explorer intigration. If I share a random file, now I have to remember that file is shared, and never move/change/delete it. If I upload a file to sharry, I can make the link expire in a month or a year or whatever, and then forget about it. I know the person gets there file, the file will get deleted to free up server space at a reasonable time, and if I want to update it, I can give them a new link, rather than modifying it, and then suddenly realizing I'm sharing modifications that I didn't intend to share yet.

@neurrone For syncing BTSync or whatever it's called now seems like a lighter and more secure solution? And for sharing I'd rather just have a thing where I upload a file and people download it. Makes sharing more intentional, means I can expire the links, and the other person doesn't get nagged to download a random app.

@lowrah Yeah, the issue with RSS is that it can't authenticate. So you could only sync public posts that way. And I'm, uh, not sure what would happen to boosts. I think they'd either not post and/or the synced post would look like it came directly from you and/or everything would explode.

@lowrah Mastodon has rss feeds for a users public posts. Just stick .rss on the end of the username. So you could achieve this with one of the many rss bots. However, rss feeds for users is a mastodon specific thing. Pleroma, or hint hint iceshrimp, don’t offer the feature.
