completely blind computer geek, lover of science fiction and fantasy (especially LitRPG). I work in accessibility, but my opinions are my own, not that of my employer. Fandoms: Harry Potter, Discworld, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Buffy, Dead Like Me, Glee, and I'll read fanfic of pretty much anything that crosses over with one of those.

@soaproot I suspect that "it would be better with less torso and more cat ears" can just be universally applied to all images. And we'll see, cropping means getting a sighted person to help me, and it's probably not worth the bother.

So I'm still looking for the ideal manager and reading list. I really like on : it's , does a perfect job at getting website titles and descriptions, and is easy to get stuff into. I can even put stuff into it from the Browser extensions on Windows. However, I can't view my goodlinks bookmarks on . Safari's reading list has the same problem, of course. I tried from Mozilla, but the of the app on all platforms is kind of a bit janky. I tried hoard, and it was fine on Desktop, but the IOS app is completely inaccessible. I tried grimoire, but it has no import function, and no apps. I looked at Raindrop, but I really don't want to pay for a bookmark manager. I wonder if I can automate goodlinks export to iCloud, and then I guess write something on Windows to consume the json file it spits out? I really just want Goodlinks to have a windows app because it's otherwise perfect.

@soaproot Yup! The man is me, and the cat is not. LOL Thanks! I'm never sure if I'm supposed to crop things or if the place I'm uploading too handles that or what. Seems like iceshrimp did the right thing I guess.

Thanks for all the boosts, everyone! I've wound up with more followers now than I had previously. I also made an attempt to add a profile picture and a banner for people who need that sort of thing, but I'm pretty sure I screwed it up.

@gyptazy It would be, if every website in the world didn't decide I'm a bot in a data center and give me all the CAPTCHAs.

@gyptazy I used to run a bunch of stuff V6 only. Then I changed ISPs, and I no longer get IPV6 addresses at my home. So annoying!

@gyptazy Oddly it seems to be the smaller ones running IPv6, while the larger ones aren’t.

@lynessence Are you okay? Covid? I probably missed something in the week my server was down.

@soaproot @quanin I wonder if that’s the reason it’s off? To run my fedi server, I have a container for the backend, one for the front end, one for email, one for backups, and one for the reverse proxy. The only one I want to have a public IP is the reverse proxy.

@quanin I mean I’m not desperately poor or something. But selfhosting comes out of the hobby budget.

@quanin So do I. But one server is always cheaper than several. If something paid me I’d move it to its own server.

@quanin Right, but i run 20 other things on this server. Docker lets me stick it all behind a reverse proxy. And it’s not an issue that one app wants postgresql 15 and another wants 16 and nobody wants the same version of Python.

@quanin I have absolutely everything dockerized. Literally nothing at all runs on the host directly. In theory, that makes it super easy to move servers. And it would have been, too, if only I’d remembered to back up the config files for my instance, not just assume that it kept everything important in the database. Everything else moved as fast as I could transfer the data.

@quanin I think it’s because docker has IPv6 off by default, and you have to do special things to get it working.

Twitter, brand marketing This is the text of the best brand email begging for followers I’ve ever received. Company name intentionally removed so I don’t do there marketing for them:
A wise man once said: "Each day on Twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it." He gave good advice. A twice-impeached, once-arrested ex-President spent his final days in office sulking over a Twitter ban. Kanye West went "death con 3" on his own career with a single tweet. You don't even know who Roseanne "I was on Ambien" Barr is. Elon Musk spent $44 billion to become Twitter's main character for life - losing his carefully crafted facade of genius in the process. In short, Twitter is where careers go to die. Despite this, we've thrived on the platform. How? Long after Twitter is dead, scholars will still be trying to figure it out. While you're waiting for Elon's ship to sink, you may as well follow us. Who knows? Maybe it'll inspire your future dissertation.
