I can't wait for how excited everyone's going to get when NVDA 2025.1 breaks eloquence and a bunch of other third party TTS addons by retiring WinMM and making Wasapi the only output method. There's going to be a lot of gnashing of teeth. The fix for threshhold is a one-line change, but I have no idea about ibmtts.

@fastfinge And then shortly after, the switch to 64-bit! Woo-hoo!

@jscholes I’m sure something horrible with TCP/IP and an eloquence server in another process will get done.

@fastfinge Potentially negating the WASAPI work in the process, unless the 32-bit process sends the audio data back to be output by NVDA.

@jscholes I wonder how the Sonata neural voices handle it? They’re doing something with RPC and hosting the AI in an external process.

@fastfinge by the time it comes out, I'm pretty sure @Tamasg will have singlehandedly rewritten addons for a hundred synthesizers and perhaps invented a new one by then.

@cachondo @Tamasg Amusingly, bestspeech is unaffected. It doesn't pass buffered=true to NVWaveOut so it's fine.

@cachondo @fastfinge Ha I wish xD been stuck with a pretty massive pulsating headache all afternoon. But it's good I guess, sometimes stuff has to ruminate before new ideas can come up at a whim.

@fastfinge Well, if that's the case, I'm not fucking updating.

@stirlock The fix should be easy. But eventually, NVDA will be forced to go 64-bit, and that will break eloquence forever. My guess would be probably 2027.

@fastfinge Well, hopefully by then, this new replacement will actually be in a usable state. It's by the same lady that made eloq back in the old old days. Forget what it's called but it's been talked about for a couple years now

@stirlock Wasn’t she in need of government grants that she didn’t get, so the project was shelved?

@fastfinge I guess not? Heard something about it going into some sort of testing phase recently. Ask @jaybird110127, saw him boost it a few weeks ago.

@stirlock @jaybird110127 Oh! I’m glad it’s not dead. Hopefully we can get something good and cross platform.

@stirlock @fastfinge Actually I have no idea what's going on with that. That testing announcement was from a year or two ago.

@stirlock @fastfinge Yeah I know, I think I boosted that post before I actually looked at it, thinking something new had happened with it.
