Is there any way to set up automatic cross-posting between 2 separate Mastodon accounts (on different instances)? All I can find is tools that let you cross-post to other platforms like Bluesky, X, etc. 🤔
I can only think of maybe 2 specific use cases myself, so perhaps no one's bothered to make a tool for this... Or maybe I'm missing some really obvious solution? 😄
@lowrah Mastodon has rss feeds for a users public posts. Just stick .rss on the end of the username. So you could achieve this with one of the many rss bots. However, rss feeds for users is a mastodon specific thing. Pleroma, or hint hint iceshrimp, don’t offer the feature.
@fastfinge Ahh right, I've actually used some of those RSS bots before, to get cross-posts from Twitter. Not quite what I'm looking for in this case, I think, but I might look into RSS options a bit more anyway. And I was thinking specifically about Mastodon so that part wouldn't be an issue! 😄
@lowrah Yeah, the issue with RSS is that it can't authenticate. So you could only sync public posts that way. And I'm, uh, not sure what would happen to boosts. I think they'd either not post and/or the synced post would look like it came directly from you and/or everything would explode.
@fastfinge No, I've just made a new account on a different instance because this one is closing down soon. But I'm not quite ready to move yet, so I was wondering whether there's a way to automatically post everything to both accounts for a while (since my current account & all its posts will be gone once the instance shuts down).
@lowrah I guess you could run two crossposters? Crosspost to bluesky on this account, then pull the bluesky posts on the other account? You're more than welcome if you want an account here btw.
@fastfinge Haha 2 crossposters! That's overkill! And I'd have to make a Bluesky account first. Probably not worth the hassle haha.
And thank you! I was going to say I'm woefully unfamiliar with Iceshrimp – but I do have an account on Catodon, which is an Iceshrimp fork, as I just learned. I'll stay on Mastodon with my main account for now, as it's what I'm most familiar with and I can't cope with too many changes at once. But I might come back to your offer as I keep exploring the fediverse!
