Call of Fate: A Tour De Force in culturally accepted tropes: Call of Fate is a Chinese released on Android and IOS by Prudence Interactive, intended to be to both and sighted players. These are my thoughts after playing for several days. stuff.interfree.ca/2025/04/30/call-of-fate-a-tour.html

@lynessence Thanks! Honestly I was a bit worried I might be revealing a bit too much cultural ignorance/internalized racism LOL

@fastfinge I have read some Asian-based fantasy, and the game plot sounds nothing like what I've read. That being said, I've only started intentionally branching out from European-based fantasy over the past few years, and I've tried to diversify my reading experience, so maybe the game is based off of something I have not read.

@lynessence It could also be that because you’re reading intentionally, you’re only getting the “good” Asian fantasy. If someone asked me to recommend western fantasy, I’d probably give them wheel of time, not xanth or a Minecraft novel.

@fastfinge @lynessence Funny that you'd give them wheel of time as a western fantasy. Especially because it has so many arabic names and references.

@atherjammoa @lynessence Yeah, but it draws a lot from lord of the rings, with a bit less racism and including women.

@fastfinge @atherjammoa I know some people think that WOT is very misogynistic and that RJ hated women. I disagree.

@lynessence @atherjammoa At least he recognized women exist. Lord of the rings didn’t.

@fastfinge @atherjammoa He certainly did, Bosoms and all. lol I also think he had a thing for redheads. Thank goodness Brandon Sanderson didn't carry on the RJ'ISM of describing every woman’s boobs.

@lynessence @atherjammoa But how will I know she’s a woman if I don’t know everything about her boobs? Otherwise she’s just another man! This complaint applies to far too many female characters written by male authors.

@lynessence @fastfinge Wait, wait. Aren't the boobs the most important part of the entire description?

@fastfinge @atherjammoa I would also consider it a western fantasy, although RJ did an excellent job of representing different cultures around the globe. www.reddit.com/r/WoT/s/2TmSS1gf53
