question: Has anyone written a Bridge between , , , , or other fediverse software and ? I have access, and would be happy to bridge some of the various blindness groups on Usenet onto the fediverse.

@fastfinge I have admitedly not heard of such a thing, but I also until just now did not know people still used Usenet.

@quanin @fastfinge OK I just looked up Usenet, and it sounds interesting, basically a decentralised sharing system.

@alexchapman @fastfinge It predates basically every centralized platform you've ever heard of. Forums/message boards, social media... all of it. The only thing it might not actually predate is email. In fact, time was you could get your usenet posts in the same client you got your email.

@quanin @fastfinge I'm trying to figure out how to get signed up on Usenet, but it looks like you have to pay to get on to Usenet Server, bummer.

@alexchapman @fastfinge Depends on the server. One of my old ISP's used to run one for free. They still exist, but you may need to dig.

@alexchapman @quanin Nope. There are free text-only usenet servers available. The main one is eternal-september.org.

@fastfinge @quanin Oh nice, is that the one you use, or do you have some sort of selfhosted Usenet thing up.

@fastfinge @alexchapman You can probably also still set up your own if you're that kind of person. I briefly talked myself into and then out of that a few years ago.

@quanin @fastfinge My other thing is Usenet clients, which one is the best for accessibility.

@alexchapman @fastfinge If you use Thunderbird for email, apparently it supports Usenet. Other than that I have no idea.

@quanin @fastfinge Oh I once tried Thunderbird and never really liked the UI. When I was reading the Usenet for beginners article on the Usenet Server site, they mentioned something called Newspin, or something like that, need to try that.

@fastfinge @alexchapman @quanin I have never heard of these groups. Are they still active? Even in the early days when I used text newsgroups I didn't know about any blind ones. I'm just asuming alt.blind. Lol. Cool idea bridging these, if you can get date and timestamps across to ActivityPub.
