If you want to communicate with your Hermes Agent via , here's a plugin for that. Code is extracted from three different PR's to the hermes agent github repo to add XMPP that weren't being merged, and moved into a plugin. I just cherry picked and packaged everything with the help of local models running on my laptop, with a final pass by a cloud model (if you read the readme carefully you can tell what cloud model) to update documentation and fix a few loose ends the smaller (but free and more environmentally friendly) local models left. Everything I could test is working. Unfortunately I don't have an XMPP client that supports reactions, typing indicators, threads, or voice messages. But it connects to the server via a secure connection, and both versions of omemo work. However you feel about , communication should at least be E2E encrypted and not controlled by discord/telegram. github.com/fastfinge/hermes-xmpp-plugin

@ZBennoui @fastfinge Do you know any accessible client with screen readers on Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android?

A
friend does use (or more correct: ) by @daniel on Android. I was surprised by that, because I thought, it were not developed with in mind. But it seems to work sufficiently well for them.

I don't know if
by @Monal on iOS works for the , though.

For Windows and MacOS no idea at all. Maybe
by @gajim? Or a web client such as by @jcbrand?

@debacle @chikim @ZBennoui @fastfinge @daniel @gajim @jcbrand we try to make it as easy and accessible as possible and swiftUi should make that even more easy as well. So its definitely on our radar :)

@Monal @debacle @chikim @ZBennoui @daniel @gajim @jcbrand Monal on iOS is almost perfect. The only issue is it doesn’t read new messages when they arrive so you have to swipe to find them. On windows Miranda IM is perfect once you configure it to use the blind friendly contact list and standard windows notifications.

@fastfinge @chikim @debacle @daniel @ZBennoui @gajim @jcbrand nice to hear! I guess the new messages you are referring to is the open chats overview displayed directly after opening the app? That will eventually be ported to swiftUi and become more accessible, too (but its not part of the planned 7.0 release, likely some 7.x).

@Monal @chikim @debacle @daniel @ZBennoui @gajim @jcbrand No. I mean that when I am in a chat, and a new message arrives, voiceover gives no indication of this. Ideally, if I’m sitting in a chat with my phone unlocked, waiting for the other person to answer, voiceover should just automatically announce the new message when it arrives. Or at the least, have a vibration, play a sound, or some other haptic. At the moment I have to just swipe left and right over and over, checking to see if the new message has come yet. Also, on that screen, the “lock” button for voiceover is labeled “744 locked received”. This is confusing, and I’m not certain what the number is for or what it’s trying to tell me. These are literally the only two accessibility issues I can find in the app.

@fastfinge @chikim @debacle @daniel @ZBennoui @gajim @jcbrand both will be solved in 7.0 with the complete rewrite of that chat view :) if not, please let me know! (It'll take 6-9 month to finish 7.0, though)

@fastfinge @chikim @debacle @daniel @ZBennoui @gajim @jcbrand currently its only in alpha, but if you want, you can send us an email with the udid of your device to info@monal-im.org and I can whitelist you for the alpha (the alpha has the new chat view already). Alpha and stable/beta can both be installed alongside each other, so you'll still have a stable app, should the alpha gave any bugs :)

@Monal @chikim @debacle @daniel @ZBennoui @gajim @jcbrand I’ll wait for a test flight beta, I think. Sadly as part of my job I’ll be running the new IOS beta; an IOS beta plus alpha software might be too adventurous for my phone haha

@fastfinge @chikim @debacle @daniel @ZBennoui @gajim @jcbrand the beta can not be installed alongside stable, though...alpha can. Beta ist still the 6-9 month away, I guess.

Somehow that github page doesn't really explain what a Hermes agent is and why one would want one. I only know the parcel service Hermes.

@martin No. It’s a plugin intended for people who already have and use Hermes agent, rather than something trying to convince you you should. Because personally I’m neutral on everyone having an AI agent unless you have a purpose already in mind. Too many people are using AI just because. I’m not interested in selling AI agents to people. Just solving a particular problem for people who already use this particular agent system.
