Hey #encryption experts: has anyone thought about something similar to what three words, but for key fingerprints? This would be a huge #accessibility win. Right now, we have long hex strings we have to compare by hand, and a few visual/barcode type systems. I would love to be able to just verify "Correct Horse Battery Staple" with a friend. Easier to hear with a screen reader (b and c and d and e can sound similar in noisy environments when you're in a hurry), and of course none of the visual systems are really workable. Does the thing I want already exist somewhere? #a11y
@miki@fastfinge Is this anything like what Docker does with default container names, where the name is two words, one taken from a list of adjectives and one taken from a list of names? I imagine a cryptographically secure random number could be turned into a sequence of words like that using local dictionaries.
@matt@fastfinge Basically that, but much longer. AFAIK, this is loosely based on an old idea called dice ware, where an impossible-to-backdoor PRNG is constructed using physical dice and a printed dictionary.
@fastfinge@matt@miki personally I think the emoji sequence that Telegram uses is cooler but I'm going to guess that it is not very friendly to screen readers
