While waiting at station, bus has announcements of the departure time every few minutes. As it's about to leave it announces "Imminent Departure" which sounds way too intense for a public bus lol. Formal vs casual speech register problem.
@kimchitea In Toronto the subway announces "This is a terminal station." at the end of the line. I always wonder if the station is about to die, or if this is the station for people who are about to die, or what. Why can't they say "This is the last station on this line" or something?
@fastfinge oh I had to think about that for a minute. when I hear "terminal" in that context I think "big station where you can transfer to other trains," not just "last stop on the line," which is what it literally means, and may not be the same thing. "Last stop" would be clearer to me.
@kimchitea Yeah, in Toronto, Union Station is the largest one, and a terminal in the way you mean. But it's not the last stop on any line it's connected to.
