Last week, I wrote an article about AI roleplay. While documenting the existing tools I use for it, it brought back that annoying "Surely someone could do a better job of this!" feeling. I've long wondered what an endless AI generated mud game might look like. Then yesterday I got over-excited about a computer science concept and made myself a little toy for fun. Then that brought back the fiending for playing with procedural generation and AI in muds. But, of course, I just don't have the time to really do this myself. So I wrote down a detailed requirements document with all of my ideas, every feature, and an outline of how it should work. I had Claude spend the night on it, and this is what came out. I just wanted to see if my ideas were good ones, or ones that would work, and what they would feel like to play. Anyway, if you enjoy playing muds, and you have an openrouter API key, you can run this yourself. There are some cool bits, and some annoying bits, and some broken bits, and some amazing ideas, and some terrible ideas. If you want to improve on this, go ahead and submit a PR. I'll probably continue tinkering with this because it's fun, and as a way for me to try interesting things, see how ideas feel, play with mud protocols, learn computer science concepts by watching AI code them and then go play with them and see what they do, and so on. But if you've ever wanted a MUD that's a bit like AI Dungeon or NovelAI or SillyTavern, here you go, come play in my sandbox: github.com/fastfinge/aimud
