this has the exact same energy as when you see someone’s parents taking photos using an iPad
an ad where someone is using the rear camera of their iphone duo to take a picture. the uhh fold screen? that faces the back is displaying a presumably animated snoopy. the text: Kid Cue. Getting kids to look at the camera just got a lot easier. Playful animations on the outer display naturally draw their eyes to the lens.

Apple Reference Image. Now you can prove the authenticity of an image taken on iPhone. Secure, pixel-level signing of photo data happens at the time of capture, making it easy to verify exactly what the camera sensor saw.

I have never, uhh, needed to verify the authenticity of an image taken on an iphone

this is just surveillance, and also it lets apple tag your photos as authentic so they can use them as training feedstock for a generative model later

why is spyware a feature? who is this for other than cops and corps?

@zzt @ireneista Journalists. Accept they won’t use it because covering AI fakes makes more money. So the organizations that hire them won’t let them do their jobs even if they wanted to.
