I just got this message from BookPlayer:

"The database is corrupted and no backup is available. The library will need to be reset and rebuilt from your audio files."

As a developer, I get it. Unexpected I/O errors happen. But what is this even saying?

Why is there no backup? I back up my phone daily, so there should be a backup.

If there's no backup in the format the app expects, how do I make sure that isn't ever the case in the future? No idea; it doesn't say.

Meanwhile, how will my library be rebuilt. Automatically, or will I need to manually reimport everything? What information have I lost?

And finally, it's a good job I didn't press the big reset button underneath this message because everything is working fine after restarting the app. Meaning that this big scary error about data loss, with a button encouraging me to cause more data loss, was a complete lie.

Please, software people, do better. In this case, better would've been a recommendation to try restarting the app first. That's it.

@jscholes Reminds me of some Windows XP software I had to use for a journalism class back in the day that liked to sometimes display the message "An unexpected error has occured. Please fix the problem before continuing." Yeah, uh, I'll get right on that!
