completely blind computer geek, lover of science fiction and fantasy (especially LitRPG). I work in accessibility, but my opinions are my own, not that of my employer. Fandoms: Harry Potter, Discworld, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Buffy, Dead Like Me, Glee, and I'll read fanfic of pretty much anything that crosses over with one of those.

@Tamasg So oddly, that only happens on my Intel Microsoft Surface laptop. It's fine on my AMD Framework Laptop. But just pressing the up and down arrows quickly on a webpage on my surface can get that to happen every time, howling squeaking random eloquence samples and all. A sighted person tells me that the "okay" button eloquence tries to read is for a dialogue that says "The instruction at {random numbers} referenced memory at {random numbers}. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program." But if I don't press okay NVDA just fixes itself and comes back.

@cachondo @Tamasg Amusingly, bestspeech is unaffected. It doesn't pass buffered=true to NVWaveOut so it's fine.

I can't wait for how excited everyone's going to get when NVDA 2025.1 breaks eloquence and a bunch of other third party TTS addons by retiring WinMM and making Wasapi the only output method. There's going to be a lot of gnashing of teeth. The fix for threshhold is a one-line change, but I have no idea about ibmtts.

Warning: loud noises. So I tried out the bestspeech addon for NVDA released by @Tamasg for fun. Unfortunately, if I arrow up and down quickly on a webpage, this is what it frequently does. Sorry for the echo and horrible clipping, I had to shout over the noises, and the setup to record this wasn't ideal. But I haven't heard a computer make these noises in ages!

Almost went to complain that broke something. Realized just in time I broke my reverse proxy. Blah. It’s better now.

Today I was in a meeting about marketing personas. But every time the term came up, my brain heard marketing fursonas. I’ve spent too much time on the fediverse.

In the from last night, I had several friends staying over at my place. They were getting some sleep, and I was fiddling with a Linux laptop attempting to get sound working. However, whatever I did somehow made a loud alarm blast out of all the speakers in my house! This woke everyone up. My friends, being the easy-going and forgiving lot they are, tied a rope to a light fixture in my house, and used it to hang me. I really should have been able to realize I was dreaming and become lucid in this one; in real life, sound on Linux doesn't work no matter what you do.

@Onj @Tamasg @mcourcel @cachondo @simon I could go espeak, but it sucks on iOS. Having the same voice on every platform is a huge win for me.

@mcourcel @Onj @cachondo @simon Still eloquence. Around 95 percent for work, 80 percent for casual reading.

@Onj @cachondo @simon Because I’m terrible at languages. Repeating is easy! But unfortunately other languages use different words for everything! And sometimes they put them in the wrong order! I can’t get on with that at all rofl. Seriously, I think I have the same problem with language that I do with music: my ability to memorize sounds is absolute crap. I can only remember words if I know what they mean; I couldn’t repeat Spanish eloquence at all. And remember and play a sequence of notes? Forget it!

@emma_cogdev Yeah, that's it! My dream just changed "gal's lovin'" into "brown nugget". LOL Thanks!

@jaybird110127 Yes! That's it! The real lyrics are "Don't know what it is 'bout that little gal's lovin'". Okay, gotta give it to my dream; that was a pretty darn good change to make the song about chocolate and fit the tune.

@Onj I did, but I think my dream must've modified the words slightly.

So here's a with an identify the song challenge. I dreamed that I was part of a TV ad for accessible chocolate. No, I don't know what "accessible" chocolate is, either. Braille on the boxes, I guess? Anyway, I woke up and sang the advertising song into my dream journal. The lyrics were "Don't know what it is 'bout that little brown nugget. But I like it, I love it, I want some more of it." Sung by an extremely American sounding man. I'm not musical, so I'm absolutely sure my dream pulled this from somewhere! My brain isn't capable of creating music by itself. Was this an actual ad for something? Or some kind of country song about...uh...the only brown nuggets I can think of are poop or chocolate. So maybe not that? I've been humming it to myself all day in hopes that I could come up with where it came from. But no luck. Hense the late post.

Edit: that was quick! Y'all are fast. Thanks to
@jaybird110127 we now know that the real lyric is "don't know what it is 'bout that little girl's lovin'" and it's a song by Tim McGraw. I'm not aware that I've ever heard of this song in my life, but hearing it it's an exact match to the dream. So I must have heard it some point and just have no memory of it. But I am proud of my dream self for apparently changing "gal's lovin'" to "brown nugget" so it still fit perfectly and was about chocolate.

Why is it that when I finish looking at a website, I close the tab, then immediately open a new tab to visit another website? Why don't I just reuse the tab I already had? LOL! Does anyone else do this, or am I just nuts.

@tardis I’m trying to find one of those menus that appears at the bottom of the page instead of under the button when you expand it with NVDA.

The trials and tribulations of working in : when I want to find something broken to demonstrate a particular issue, all the places I look, it's been fixed. When I need something to actually work, everything is always broken.
