So I never could get on with Matrix. It's slow, the clients are annoying, and the servers are hard to run. Back to #xmpp it is! Feel free to add me for some old school instant messaging: fastfinge@im.interfree.ca. #jabber
@pixelate@jonathan859 It's so refreshing to use a thing that's not a bloated web app honestly. And if you set up the contact list for blind folks during install it's fully accessible. Even reads out messages as they come in.
@fastfinge@pixelate@jonathan859@FreakyFwoof you know I was looking for that thing so I could at least do the base stuff and then add whatsApp discord and steam to the plugins.
@fastfinge@FreakyFwoof@pixelate@jonathan859 How well does it handle things like discord. Honestly discord's interface is what's keeping me from doing more with it. I'm on the hearthstone access server and a few other ones and would love to interact more but gah, discord.
@MariahL@FreakyFwoof@pixelate@jonathan859 So it handles them pretty well. The problem is the awful hCaptcha thing. As usual with discord. If it fails, you need to log in with your browser, do the captcha crap, then log in again with Miranda, and it should work.
@MariahL@fastfinge@FreakyFwoof@pixelate The WhatsApp plugin wants me to replace a file in libs, it somehow can't though, apparently it's in use. Is that important? 2.
@MariahL@FreakyFwoof@pixelate@jonathan859 Amusingly Facebook is the only thing I can't get working. Discord, Teams, Steam, XMPP, Whatsapp, everything else is fine. But Facebook just won't sign in.
@fastfinge@MariahL@FreakyFwoof@pixelate@jonathan859 Holy hell I remember briefly using Miranda back in the day. I may need to give this a look if it supports whatsapp and stuff. Anything I need to be aware of when setting that stuff up? I'm not that familiar with xmpp things and would hate to break the universe.
@fastfinge@FreakyFwoof@pixelate@MariahL@jonathan859 Ah, ok. Are there any specific plugins I need to make whatsapp and other stuff work? Not sure if I'll get discordd working with it because h-captcha, but I'd love to use a decent thing for whatsapp.
@MariahL@fastfinge@FreakyFwoof@pixelate Hmm, so I entered my Discord E-Mail and Passwod, but what now? In the tray it just says Discord disconnected, but I can't see any auth page or 2FA request or anything.
@fastfinge@MariahL@pixelate@jonathan859 I got signed into discord no captcha at all. Was surprised. Hadn't updated Miranda in years, so it did a bunch of things but nothing crashed or burned. Does it only show DM's not servers? Would make my life easier if it did.
@pixelate@fastfinge@jonathan859@FreakyFwoof oh my god yes. For me it was a portable copy and some fiddling to get passed my school district's wi-Fi filters so Miranda could get through.
@MariahL@fastfinge@jonathan859@FreakyFwoof Oh goodness yes, the portable version. I wasn't smart enough to handle filters at that age, I still thought if I copied JAWS from the school computer's program files folder I'd have my own personal copy of JAWS. :)
@FreakyFwoof@fastfinge@pixelate@MariahL@jonathan859 It's no longer on 3.onj.me/programs/ when I checked. What settings do I need to change to make it work best with screen reader anyway? I got Telegram to work, but its reading messages weird and it keeps hiding the window wverytime I alt tab out of it. Also, Discord keeps asking for a 2-fa code, but it keeps saying invalid code LOL.
@fastfinge@jonathan859@pixelate I just caught up on this thread, damn I heard of this thing but thought it was abandoned, might have to look into it, and maybe even one day make a plugin for my upcoming thing called Fedi+
@jonathan859 Remember that it wants to manage its own letsencrypt certificates. So you have to proxy both http and https for it. You can't just rewrite https. That got me.
@fastfinge Is it enough if I put the web-portal container in my docker proxy network? Oh I should clarify, I run caddy as my reverse proxi, in docker as well. Or do I also need to put the certs thing in there for whahtever reason.
@fastfinge The problem I'm having is that my caddy runs in docker, and for some reason won't proxy the web portal, I'm getting a 502 error. I also see that in the logs the cert container fails to get the ssl certs, so guess that's a bigger deal I have to mess around with tonight.
